Gaydio | Canal Street Sessions 2007

Gaydio | Canal Street Sessions 2007 brings together three mixes that were originally broadcast on Gaydio, Manchester's LGBT radio station, in August 2007.

At the time, the mixes were aired as three separate one-hour shows, taking listeners on a musical journey through the different sounds I was playing in clubs across Manchester. For this podcast, I've brought them together into one continuous three-hour mix.

The set begins with funky disco house, builds into a chunky peak time house set, before finishing with a full-on dirty house session, reflecting the progression of a typical night on the dancefloor.

Gaydio was just beginning its journey in Manchester back then, becoming an important part of the city's LGBT community and giving local DJs a platform to share their music with a wider audience. It was a pleasure to be part of those early broadcasts.

So, whether you want to relive those days or discover the sounds of the Manchester club scene from 2007, sit back, turn it up and enjoy three hours of house music.

Bill Goldsmith’s Fav’s 3 | Funky House Mix

Bill Goldsmith’s Fav’s 3 is the third mix in the series recorded in 2007, featuring more of the favourite funky house tracks chosen by my good friend Bill Goldsmith.

These mixes were originally put together back in the day as a collection of the tracks Bill loved most on the dancefloor. Sadly, Bill passed away in 2019, but he will always be remembered for his friendship and the many great memories shared through music.

Funked! | Funky House Mix

This mix takes me right back to the Canal Street dancefloors of Manchester in the mid 2000s. Funked! was originally recorded in 2007 for a friend and never actually made it onto my podcast feed at the time.

By then I had already been DJing on the Manchester scene for a few years and funky house was everywhere. From early evening warm ups through to packed dancefloors late into the night, these tracks were staples across many of the venues around the Village.

The mix brings together a selection of funky house classics that defined that era. Expect uplifting vocals, chunky basslines and plenty of groove, the kind of tracks that would instantly lift a room and keep the dancefloor moving.

Although it sat on a hard drive for years, it still captures the sound and energy of that time, so it felt right to finally share it here.

If you enjoy funky house, Manchester club classics and vocal house from the mid 2000s, this one should bring back a few memories.
